In Windows 11, the disk is loaded at 100% and you started noticing it all the time, because every now and then while working at the computer you have some feeling that the OS is running very slowly, although more recently, the same system and on the same device, it worked incredibly fast. It is clear that someone can leave such a situation without attention, since the software considers it completely useless and thinks - "It's time to change the device." We recommend that you perform several actions and it is possible that they will solve the problem you are facing and as a result, the issue of buying a new device will disappear by itself.
We will act in solving the problem in stages, since here we need a whole set of actions divided into different steps, where the system, hard drives, applications and something else will be checked. Such a comprehensive and sequential approach will eliminate any gap and get to the bottom of the problem.
- We close unused applications running in the background: we launch the "Task Manager" → go to the "Processes" tab → the "Applications" section → visually you need to look at the running applications and make sure that not one of them consumes memory – this can be done by means of the "Memory" section → if you notice that some application is mercilessly devouring memory, then you need to exit it - select the application and click on "Finish the task".
- Disable the Superfetch/SysMain service: press the hotkeys "Win+R" in order to open the "Run" window → enter the command "services.msc" → now, you need to view the list and find in it "SysMain" or "Superfetch" on which you need to double-click and in the "Startup type" install "Disabled" → find the "Service Status" section and click "Stop" → it remains to click on "Apply" → "Ok".
- Changing the virtual memory: using "Win+R", launch the "Run" window in which we write the command "sysdm.cpl" → find the "Advanced" tab and go to it → now, we are interested in the "Performance" section, where you need to select "Settings" → select "Advanced" → and here here, you can go to virtual memory, where using the "Edit" button, it is possible to make changes → find "Automatically manage the size of the swap file for all disks" and remove the mark opposite it → go to "Custom size", where in the field "Initial size (MB) we enter the recommended parameters, here in the field "Maximum size (MB) we increase the memory size by 1.5 → click on "Install" → "OK" → it remains only to restart the device and make sure that the Windows 11 disk is not loaded.
- Defragmentation and optimization of hard drives: go to the search field and enter the search query "Defragmentation" → from the results, select "Disk Defragmentation and optimization" → in a new window, select the hard drive and click on "Optimization" → as soon as the defragmentation of your hard drive ends, click on "Change settings" → find the item "Run on schedule (recommended)" and remove the checkbox against it → click "Ok" → it remains to restart the device.
- Disabling the automatic launch of applications during system startup: open the "Task Manager" → go to the "Startup" tab → find a program in the list that you think should not be loaded during system startup, click on it so that it is highlighted and click "Disable".
- Configure the computer to achieve the best performance: use "Win+R" and enter the command "sysdm.cpl" → select "Windows System Properties" or the file "sysdm.cpl" → go to the "Advanced" tab → open "Performance" → click on "Settings" → now in the "Advanced" tabVisual effects" you need to select "Configure for better performance", here we check the box → click "Apply" → then "Ok".
- Scan your computer for potentially malicious programs: open "Windows Security Settings" → go to the "Protection against viruses and threats" → select "Quick Scan", after the "Quick Scan" is finished, click on "Full scan". Also, if you have third-party antiviruses, they should definitely be used in order to scan the system and try to identify malware.
As practice shows, if the Windows 11 disk is loaded for no apparent reason and perform all the above actions one by one, then the problem disappears and does not bother the PC user anymore.
